Art and Design

Art and Design is an integral part of our curriculum here at St. Peter’s, enhancing our children’s creativity and imagination. The subject provides opportunities to develop and extend pupil’s artistic skills and allows expression of personal interests, thoughts and ideas.

At St. Peter’s, we aim to engage, inspire and challenge our pupils in order to allow them to experiment, invent and create their own masterpieces.  Children become creative learners with a good understanding of artists, designers and architects from around the world and have the opportunity to work with local artists, including regular visits to our local pottery studio. Sketchbooks are used from the Reception year onwards to allow every child to explore techniques, develop key skills and express their own unique personality through investigation and experimentation.

We monitor the impact of our Art and Design curriculum through termly pupil voice opportunities and the scrutiny of skill progression in sketchbooks.

By the end of their time with us, our children have learned, improved and embedded a broad range of artistic skills.  They are confident to explore and take risks whilst placing value on the journey, as opposed to the finished product, which we believe to be a valuable life skill.  Most importantly, we aim for our children to have learned more, remembered more, enjoyed more and continued to develop creatively, spiritually, socially and emotionally through their artwork, so that they are fully prepared for the next stage in their lives.
